Volunteer FAQ
No. We provide comprehensive training for all volunteer roles. What matters most is your commitment to helping your community and willingness to learn. People from all backgrounds make excellent health navigators.
All volunteers receive training in: SozoRock Health systems and procedures, privacy and confidentiality requirements, cultural competency, basic benefits navigation (Medicaid, SNAP, HEAP), and digital literacy coaching. Training is typically 8-12 hours spread over 2 weekends.
Absolutely. While bilingual volunteers are especially valued, there are many roles that don't require Spanish proficiency. We have dedicated translation support volunteers who can assist when needed.
It depends on the role. Health Navigators commit 4-8 hours per week. Digital Literacy Coaches commit 2-4 hours. Health Access Day support is event-based (a few weekends per year). We work with your schedule.
It helps to be in or near the area, but we welcome volunteers from adjacent counties. Some roles like translation support and community outreach can be done remotely.
No. We never collect medical records, diagnoses, or health conditions. You will handle only minimal information — first names and county. All volunteers receive privacy training.
Yes, volunteers 16 and older are welcome with parental consent if under 18. This is an excellent opportunity for community service hours and college applications.
